Story 19: Broken

“She survived the unbeatable and traveled the world. Then he stole her heart and drowned her soul. With nothing left and her heart turned cold, she sunk into darkness, never to be heard from again. Or so they say.”

“What happened next grandpa?”

Slender, smooth fingers gripped his hand. Mariel’s almond eyes searched for answers, pleaded for them to be revealed. Half the story was never enough. But no matter how much she begged he could not, and would not tell the ending to this story.

His daughter had been gone ten years. Occasional snippets of news would drift into town. Just stories, he would tell himself. How could his precious girl be responsible for all those deaths?

“No one knows, my dear. No one knows.”
