If you know me outside of the Story A Day challenge, you know I’m a planner. I’m prepared. I come with everything but the kitchen sink, and often I’ll have a substitute even for that! (Heck, when my dad had a stroke I was able to pack everything I needed for a week long hospital stay in under 15 minutes, food and drink included! [[dad is okay]])
Not everyone is like me. I have a very dear friend that refuses to do planning – well, except for this challenge I issued her, but that is different. Some people are like this friend; you don’t want to know where you’re going, you want the thrill of the unknown!
I like the unknown. But I like to be efficient. So I am conducting some prep work tonight for tomorrow. Oh man, it DOES kick off tomorrow!
Well, I already know what my first story will be. And maybe even the second. After that? Well, it gets a little hazy. That’s why I’m going to go back through all my old links from when I did prompt generators and revisit those. I’m also going to start carrying around my Once Upon A Time card game.
Sites I’ll be using that have prompts or useful story information:
- Writing Excuses – a podcast that happens every Monday. They give prompts after every show.
- Gail Carson Levine‘s blog. She’s an amazing author with lots of really useful information. She also closes each blog with a list of prompts that work on whatever her blog topic is.
- Major Enterprise – narrative prompts for science fiction
- Flash Fiction Prompts – super short, but to the point
- Writing.com fiction prompts
- Language as a Virus used to be a really big fav of mine, haven’t visited it in a while. I’ll probably use it at least once during May.
- Resources for Creative Writers
- Buzzle. com Creative Writing Prompts
- CreativeWritingPrompts.com
- Possibly the best for last: Adam Maxwell’s Fiction Lounge
And now, I probably need to go outline something……
I loves you! Thanks for these links. I’ll be sure to use them in times of great need!
Thank you for posting the prompts! Those will probably come in handy this month…
