Last May didn’t work out for me but I’m excited to give the challenge another shot.
I’m still trying to decide how I want to structure my stories:
- free for all? following prompts willy-nilly
- short interconnected stories that I can later expand into a longer/short story or novella
- use it to world build and get to know characters in novel (I think this is cheating but is really tempting me)
I looked back at my stories from the past two May’s and found that I had a few gems (even a smaller few that I’ve submitted)!
Goals for May
To write at least 5 days a week (ie- give myself padding for finals & such)
To blog at least 5 days a week (ie- get back into the blogging flow)
To put all my stories in the same place (ie- ORGANIZE)
Where I’ll be
I’ll be updating my blog here and posting in the forums but will probably be hanging out on Google+ too. It really helped me stay focused during NaNoWriMo last year. Here’s my G+ profile plus my About.me page where you can find me elsewhere online.
What about you?
Are you doing StoryADay this May? Check out The Rules (they aren’t hard so relax!).
Good luck with your goals, and I think any option you choose for yourself will be beneficial- go with your gut instinct.
I’ll be doing the challenge again this year. My goal is to write one story every single day.
Thanks. I’ve got today to really brainstorm and I’ll start my first story tonight at work. Your goal to focus on beginning and end is really good! Have fun
Glad you found a few gems from years past. It always happens that way!
I don’t think world-building for a novel is cheating. I’m going to try to write complete mini-stories though, to get the ‘I did it’ factor. But then I can use the mini-stories as DVD-extra-style pieces when my career takes off!
That’s a great idea! Originally I wanted to write a series of shorts about the past of my fantasy/steampunkish novel but didn’t think of doing that in May. Maybe I’ll do really short shorts instead.
Oh the ideas! The extras sounds really good too.
