Confession

Alright…I made it to day 10 before I stopped. I just didn’t have any time. Life got crazy and I neglected my writing. BUT…to make it up to myself, I’m doing at least one of these fun little things (http://oneword.com) for every day I missed.

Cheers,

Wednesday

Day 7- Now I know!

Used today’s prompt, sort of. I’ve started using the same characters for my stories, ever since the “good vs. evil” thing…Darla and Penelope. Cause I like those names. Anywho. I put them at a different age each time, and each time my style changes a bit. Not quite on purpose. 600 words today, and a cute little story. I’m finally creating excessively flawed characters just to try it, and it’s very, very fun. Penny and Darla MIGHT be a little over dramatic, perhaps a little selfish…but it’s more fun that way. ;)

C’est tout!

Day 6- Do It Right

500 words, but a complete story. As soon as I have more time, I’ll write at LEAST 1000 words, I promise. Anywho. Yes. I used the prompt, “Do it right or get off the horse.”

I don’t have much more to say, as my brain is currently in a mushy state. C’est tout, je pense.

Day 5- For the Youth

880 words. New record for me. And it’s an ENTIRE story. I used the “Shindig” prompt. And it went in a completely different direction than I thought. But it certainly was a fun direction. So. Yes. Finally got a huge stress-maker out of the way, perhaps now I’ll have more time for writing stuffs. Here’s to writing.

Day 4- Victorious

This is the first story I’ve written that’s light-hearted. I went for a childish theme along with the whole “May the Fourth Be With You” good vs. evil thing. Twas fun. Yet again, another short blurb. About 300 words. Sorry. I just don’t have any time. Oh well. Maybe some other time.

Day 3- Here I Am

Today I cheated a bit. Instead of a story, it was more a proclamation. But I have an excuse. I was too busy having a very deep conversation with a fantastic group of individuals. We discussed the human soul and what it held for literally hours. Thus the title of my brief clip for today.

In my defense, I have been planning some fun stories. It’s just finding time to write about them considering I’ve spent 1 waking hour at my own home all day. Oh well. Hopefully I’ll have time eventually. Here’s to writing.

Day 2- The Deed is Done

So, yes. I used the prompt provided. Many thanks for that…Twas fun. This story was longer…690 words. It’s getting there. Slowly but surely. Anywho. Today my inspiration was Macbeth and Hamlet along with the prompt. Those quotes really come in handy. Though, it seems odd that nearly all of my characters seem to be well versed in Shakespearean tragedies. I might try to be more choosy with characters that spout Shakespeare in the future…

Well, that is for another day. Speaking of which, I decided its high time to set some goals for myself:

1- Yes, I start in medias res, but that doesn’t mean I’m exempt from filling in the background eventually. I must remember to actually provide information about the characters so the reader isn’t flailing about in the dark looking for sense.

2- I might as well try to lengthen my stories, but I suppose that will come with improvement in other areas.

3- Fuller plots. I generally use mental conflicts (person vs. self, mostly) to drive my story…but I should branch out.

4- TRY NEW THINGS…I’ve been doing that by trying the prompts. I must continue doing that.

5- I haven’t though of a five yet, but it’s my favorite number so I had to include it.

C’est tout. For now.

Day 1- Who is my soul?

In the midst of insane writing assignments and analysis of Sylvia Plath poetry, I carved out a solid ten minutes to write my story for the day. It’s a short one, about 400 words. But it is SOMETHING. So there is my start. My first story for May.

I might have mentioned that my state of mind while writing said story was a bit questionable, and I wrote it directly after reading Elms…so you can only guess how bright and cheery it was. Yay for morbidity!

Hello world!

April is coming to a close and I’m looking for a challenge. After successfully completing my first Script Frenzy, I’m a bit restless. I was looking over forums hoping for inspiration, and, lo and behold! What do I see? I see a link to Story a Day May. A new challenge, something refreshing. Here’s to trying!
