no one would be at a loss for them. Everyone would write without hesitation and without concern. Words would spill onto the page, onto the screen.

If words were free, they’d be taken for granted. No one would take them seriously because there were no dues to pay in order to write them down.

Words would flow from pen to page, transmit from fingers to keyboard, with little effort, little thought, little emotion. No bearing of the soul. No tearing out the hair. No struggle over the correct phrasing, point of view, description.

If words were free, who would need them?
