Juanita's Story A Day Challenge

The Drummer Man

Written By: Juanita A McLellan - May• 10•12

Boom, boom, boom, boom.  The drummer hit the beat that echoed along with my heart. Swaying in time with his soulful bass, I let go to the music, surrendering to the beat.  Boom, boom, boom, boom.  The beat took over, possessing my soul, releasing my inhibitions.  Boom, boom, boom, boom.  His wreckless abandon captured my heart.

Boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  He changed the beat, he took my heart on a ride.  My head started making calculations from how fast he was working, and how often he looked at me.  Boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  My heart started writing cheques that my body could never cash.  Boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  It was all over, my heart beat in time with his music, pulling me into the song.

Enter the bass player, followed by lead guitar.  The strain of the strings in unison with that beat tore through my fleshy layers, scratching at my skeleton, imbedding in my flanks.  He strummed the guitar, and with his eyes closed in mystical prayer, he strummed by heartstrings.

The man at the front opened his mouth.  Guteral raw testosterone ran rife through the room.  Women swooned, ladies screamed and girls giggled.  I swayed, not from my drummer, I still swayed to his beat.  Boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  His arms ripped as he struck the drumskin, electrifying the nerves that ran under myskin.  Boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  Beads of sweat gathered on his brow, dropping with the beats of his desires.

For a moment our eyes met, locked in an eternal etherial embrace, entwined and entangled, trapped and tormented.  He bet and he blinked and he blinked and he bet.  Boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  My heart bet along, then it skipped and it stopped.  All I could hear was the boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.  All I could feel was the boomtity, boomtity, bomtity, boom.

I stole a deep breathe, aware of his air, absorbing the sound and living on the music.  My lungs felt the passion, the drive and the power.  Boom, boom, boom, boom.  Holding it in, I savoured the moment.  The pain drove me mad, drove me crazy, drove me home. Boom, boom, boom, boom.  Releasing the pain, my lungs collapsed, loosing his beat.  Boom, boom, boom, boom.  I was once again me, released from my trance, along in my body.

Boom, boom, boom, boom.  The drummer stopped beating.  I applaud with my heart, and smile a coy glance.  He wipes his brow, and salutes the crowd.  Our moment has passed, but the joy still remains.  I wonder and wait for his next round on the beats.
