Every month we gather here to discuss what we’ve achieved and commit to making more progress in our creative lives in the coming month. We call it our   Serious Writerâs Accountability Group or SWAGr, for short! (We’re serious, not sombre!)
Leave a comment below telling us how you got on last month, and what you plan to do next month, then check back in on the first of each month, to see how everyoneâs doing.
(It doesnât have to be fiction. Feel free to use this group to push you in whatever creative direction you need.)
Did you live up to your commitment from last month? Don’t remember what you promised to do? Check out the comments from last month.
And donât forget to celebrate with/encourage your fellow SWAGr-ers on their progress!

Hi everyone!
May is almost done, but I’ve just discovered Swagr! (Just what I needed after the demise of Write1Sub1.) May is a busy month for me and there are only 4 days left, but I still have plans!
â˘Edit a Steampunk story I’ve had brewing for months.
â˘Finish writing a Punch & Judy inspired horror, that’s languishing in my wip folder.
⢠Choose a prompt (or two) from SaD and write drabbles!
Oh no! What happened to Write1Sub1? I havenât been following along for a while but I thought that was a great idea and a great community. I âmetâ Simon Kewin right before W1S1 when he took part in the first StoryADay May in 2010.
Youâre more than welcome here (tell all the Write1Sub1 folks!).
I love the sound of your steampunk story and the Punch & Judy inspired horror (isnât all Punch & Judy kind of horrific?! I remember watching them at the seaside when I was a kid. I did like the crocodile though…)
Again, welcome, and if you want me to send you reminders, use the form at the bottom of this page.
My collection of short stories is… still incomplete. I only wrote one of that stories (and a beginning) and I don’t think it will be closed any time soon, since there is still a lot to write in that world.
CampNaNoWriMo worked great, even when revision isn’t over. Sadly, for the rest, I only got one general draft for a novel, and a several single scenes for the other.
So, for may, I’ll take the StADa challenge with free weekends. Also, I have trouble to comment most of the time, so, for many challenges I will comment later, or not at all.
I’ve been stuck in a rut lately. It’s been… six months since the last time I posted a goal on SWAGR?! Wow. My first goal is to stop that from happening again, I guess.
The other goal, of course, is to write and publish a story a day in May. 31 pieces of fiction, long or short, all posted online for accountability. I love the idea of practicing in public, so I’m really excited for this.
Didn’t make much progress on my novel revision in April. But I did write two blog posts.
I plan to write at least three short stories per week in May and to complete one blog post. The other four days each week, if the daily prompt doesn’t spark a story, I will revise my novel rough draft. Whenever I find the props challenging, I will use them as my creative work for the day.

I hope that knowing everyone is beavering away on stories will inspire you to revise, too!
May I create a story each day in May – which means I am committed to writing something every day and training the crew to leave me be when I am writing[should have already happened I know but I am nothing if not a pushover for my family especially that small person around whose finger I am wrapped]. I wish to submit at least one story to a competition this month and do a stock take of unfinished pieces.
I need to complete reading two ms’s for other writers – well overdue – and attend two writing group meetings.
Can I do it? Yes I can! (why do I hear that in Bob the builders voice?)
Because of the aforementioned âsmall personâ? đ
(âScoop, Muck and Dizzy, and Rolly too. Lofty and Wendy join the crew…â)
I’m keeping my commitments simple this month:
* Post all the prompts
* Hang out with the superstars
* Write every day
* Don’t ignore my husband’s birthday, coming up in June!
“Simple”….
Go Julie!
Okay, I’m in. I will write everyday in May 2018. At minimum, I will write a character centered scene.
Excellent! I LOVE the combination of ambition (I will write every day) and of setting a minimum product.
Having said that, if you don’t make it one day, let it go and move on! Another day is coming around…
good plan
So, my plan for April was to do Camp Nanowrimo to get the editing of my novel finished. And I did — get that pass of editing done. There are some remaining things to do, though – the character introductions need to be more spread out and more foreshadowing of the climax would not hurt, a few other things. So, for May, my plans are more editing plus Story a Day (I’m planning on 5 stories per week).
Also! One of the stories I submitted in March, to an anthology call? It got accepted!!
W00t!! That’s fab. Make sure you let us know when it’s out!
well done on all that editing and the anthology. Hope May is hugely productive for you.
I completed my 30 poems in April for NaPoWriMo which was lovely, and will be using all 31 days this month to develop character sketches with the prompts to spark the creative juice. Happy writing, all!
Good for you! Here’s to a month of interesting characters!
I loved doing all the monthly challenges when I began writing in earnest. I have since expanded things i wrote into fuller pieces. Poetry is an interesting outlet for story which i have never quite mastered in fact not even apprenticed. đ The world needs poetry. Happy May!
I will write 30 stories this month!
Following the prompts when I feel like it or writing from inspiration.
I will write every day!
Starting strong!
Very good plan tammyb. Writing every day is a terrific habit to develop.
