Human-Friendly Version
StoryADay collects your email address (if you provide it) to communicate with you about StoryADay events and news. I never give your email address to anyone else. I suppose I’d have to if legally required, but apart from that, your details are in a database that only site admins can access (for now, that’s me, Julie Duffy).
This site uses cookies (please see the cookie pop up for more details) and affiliate links. That means, if you click on my links to sites like Amazon, Bluehost (my web host), Audible (which I have loved since 1999) or Scrivener (my fave writing software), you’ll be tracked and I’ll get a kickback if you buy anything. This helps defray the costs of running the site. A bit. Not much. But I appreciate it.
Guest posters may also provide affiliate links and use cookies in the links in their bios.
If you’re not cool with this, don’t click on links to Amazon, Bluehost, Audible Scrivener or anything else I identify as an affiliate link (and, apart from those four, I’ll always identify affiliate links). Google is your friend, here: just search for information about whatever is linked to, and go there, ‘naked’.
If you join our community, again, whatever details you provide will be stored in a database accessible by StoryADay admin(s).
I will never sell, rent, giveaway or otherwise abuse the information you share here. If I want to quote a comment you’ve made in the private community, I’ll ask.
You should feel free to share StoryADay-branded graphics, logos, buttons, promotional information, as long as you’re not reselling it. If you want to reprint an article, please ask.
AI Policy August 2023
ZOOM: As of 7 Aug 2023 I have not enabled any of Zoom’s new functions that would give them permission to use my content with AI. I do not use their webinar scheduler or Meeting Summaries services. Their update/explainer of their User Agreement satisfies me that they are being more transparent than most companies about their use and potential use of AI. I’m comfortable with their explanation of ‘use’ and ‘own’ because i’ve read a lot of publishing contracts and understand that a non-exclusive license to use content is a requirement for companies who distribute/use content.
If you attend StoryADay live meetings it is likely I am using Zoom. You will be notified in-meeting if I am recording and if I have enabled any AI functions in future.
OTHER COMPANIES: I use Convertkit to manage my email list (and give you easy subscribe/unsubscribe and spam protection), Descript to provide transcripts and edit videos of meetings/podcasts etc.. I host memberships and courses on Kajabi, I use Libsyn for the podcast, Canva to produce graphics, and this site is currently hosted by WPEngine. I will be monitoring all these companies’ policies on AI and privacy.
AI CONTENT: I do not currently knowingly accept AI-generated written content for StoryADay though I have already published some art that was created by artists using AI tools. This policy may change as the technology evolves and people begin to use the tools in artistic ways in their writing. Additionally, I have used these tools to help me brainstorm, especially for marketing and will continue to do so, being as transparent as possible.
I fully support the right of artists to have control and fair compensation for their work. I support transparency from companies, and will continue to advocate for clarifications in contracts and law to this end. You may wish to follow PEN, the Author’s Guild and WGA(East) or WGA(West), all organizations that advocate for the rights of writers.
