Oh goodness, I had quite a time trying to figure out how to work this prompt into my short. I had decided that I would link all of my May stories around a central cast of characters, and it seemed like my two MC’s would be role-playing during a D&D-esque campaign, but it turned into another type of story within a story because I quickly went down the rabbit hole of creating a gaming system instead of furthering the plot. So now one of my MC’s is attending a new writing seminar, and her bestie is her beta. The writer has a penchant for incorporating her friends into her tales, to the chagrin of her close readers, and so I think this sci-fi side romp will now be a recurring detour. They might still end up playing that campaign one day, though.
