They had been married sixty years. She always did the cooking, laundry, grocery shopping, and cleaning around the house. He has just returned home after the funeral and finds himself alone to figure it all out for himself.

That was darker than I first thought. You set it up well and then delivered the punch at the end. Well done a very engaging short story.
This was an interesting prompt. I was going to play it straight, telling the tale of an old man picking up the pieces after his life was shattered. But then a slightly different idea beckoned to me.
