Day 26 – The Sale

Today’s prompt lets you practice your dialogue and thinking about communicating your characters’ motivations to the reader.

The Prompt

One character is trying to sell something to another character. .

This could be metaphorical: they are trying to sell them an idea.

It could be literal: they’re trying to sell them a car.

Leave a comment letting us know how it went (and what you decided to sell!)

  1. Complete. Traveling salesman meets overworked farmhand, gets into an argument over what it really means to “sell” (isn’t that something we’re always doing in one way or another?)

I’m happy that I wrote, but I’m not thrilled with the results. I’ll look at it again in the morning and try to figure out why it went sideways.

    Thank you for the prompt!

    1. It may be that you didn’t really care. It’s one of the pitfalls of doing these kinds of prompts (and why I don’t do proscriptive prompts most of the time). If a writer doesn’t connect with the subject matter it’s hard to turn it into a good story.

Maybe that was today’s lesson and you can let this story go.

      1. Thank you, Julie! Yes I think you’re right – I just couldn’t seem to get into it. Bounced back though and had much more fun with the Day 27 prompt!
