Thanks for your interest in providing a prompt for the StoryADay Challenge 2023.
Every May hundreds of writers take part in the StoryADay May–challenging themselves to become more productive and more creative by writing a story a day for a month.
The 2023 lineup already includes Mary Robinette Kowal, KB Carle, Rachel Swearingen, and Sarah Cain.
The past ‘prompters’ list includes: Neil Gaiman, Joanne Harris, Hallie Ephron, Joe R Lansdale, Gretchen Rubin, Jonathan Maberry, Roxane Gay, Seanan MacGuire, James Sott Bell, Windy Lynn Harris, Preemie Mohamed, Heidi Durrow, Caroline Kim, Deesha Philyaw, and more.
Prompts can be anything from a word to a picture or a list of unrelated phrases. Or it could be a scenario that you’d like to see people play with.
I would love to have all the prompts by April 15, 2023, but there is some wiggle room, especially if I know a prompt is coming.
There’s no expectation that you’ll participate further after providing a prompt.
More about StoryADay:
Since May 2010 thousands of writers have come to StoryADay.org in May to challenge themselves to write creatively every day: writing and finishing a story every day in May. Our writers have gone on to develop a lifelong writing habit. Some have received their first (and fiftieth!) publication acceptance, even signed with agents and publishing houses for their first novels! StoryADay has been picked as a Writer’s Digest 101 Best Websites for Writer ‘Best of the Best’ and as one of their 23 favorite podcasts.
About Julie Duffy
Julie is a writer and the host of StoryADay.org, a creativity challenge, writer’s community and podcast. She has written for Writer’s Digest and Writers’ Journal magazines, is an occasional columnist WriterUnboxed.com and hosts writing workshops online and in person. She has partnered with PenguinRandomHouse’s Signature Reads, and NaNoWriMo’s Young Writers’ Program to encourage people to write today, not ‘some day’.
Thanks for your time and your writing.
Best wishes,
Julie Duffy Founder & Director, StoryADay
P. S. If you know of someone else who’d like to prompt, please feel free to share this. I’m particularly interested in prompts from writers in traditionally underrepresented groups and people who write short stories.
