Last month started well but then went off the rails.
September’s Goals:
IWSG monthly post – written and posted Wednesday 4th.
Attempt to write every day in September Story A Day – I was inspired to write a few at the beginning but then ground to a halt doubting my own abilities as a writer.
Reviews of the three books read and outstanding – stopped reading to do reviews. Still outstanding.
Submit short for IWSG Anthology – MG historical fantasy. Deadline September 4th. Submitted.
Submit an entry in Pitch Wars for my NIP = Novel In Progress – called ‘Fevered Few’. This is where the red pen/light/smear kicked in. Re-reading my WIP made me doubt myself. Re-think time.
October plans; keep them short and brief.
I posted my IWSG blog entry on Wednesday 2nd.
I’m already working on my WEP/IWSG entry for October 16th – theme: Horrible Harvest.
I’m replotting my WIP in advance on a rewrite during November’s NaNoWriMo.
Anything else – shorts, reviews, or posts – is a bonus.
Oh, and read more – even if finishing books means more reviews to write.
Hello everyone,
I’m back from my September break. My crazy life and schedules are ahead so i needed that. So last august, i think, i wanted to do 10 hours of world building and a short. I did 15 hours and half a short.
So my Preptober goals are:
– flesh out my characters;
– polish my first blush outline (maybe);
– finish that short.
I’ll be content to do at least one and a half of those goals as i have a lot of birthdays and events this month. Work isn’t going to let up either so yup those are my goals this month.
Happy writing everyone!
My immediate goal for October is to finish the unwritten stories. (Down from 8 to 7 just tonight!) Then I need to dump the novel that’s making me crazy and think about something totally new for NaNoWriMo and get that plotted out and ready to go. Finally, I think I have two stories written in September which can, with some tweaking, be submitted. Good luck to all with their October goals–and wasn’t September fun and productive?? 🙂
Over the last few months I’ve been working on a 12-part serial, and have drafted up to Part 8. My goal for October is to finish the first draft of the rest of this (so one part per week).
Sounds good. Do you have a schedule for your days, so you can get straight to work, without having to make too many decisions?
Kind of. I plan writing sessions for just after breakfast (when I don’t work) or just after work (when I do work), but how long those sessions are varies.
Hi, all,
My goals for September were to do Story A Day (which I did, with the slight twist that they were almost all scenes for my current novella-in-progress), blog (I did not), and work on a couple of other stories (I did).
For October, I am going to:
*finish the novella
*also finish one other short story
*blog (more likely this month, as I’m going to a writing convention October 18th-20th and I generally write about it)
*as mentioned, going to Can-Con (SF/fantasy/horror convention here in Ottawa), attending a couple of workshops on the first day (one on being accurate about medical details & the other on worldbuilding)
October goals:
1. Work on some aspect of the writing process for 40 minutes as soon as I get to my desk every morning. This month, that means publish a blog post that
a. briefly discusses my book club’s October selection
b. reflects on what I learned from StoryADay this time around
c. discusses why October is one of my 2 favorite months.
d. Finish revising the poems I have not yet finished revising.
e. Submit them for publication.
f. Submit somewhere else the poems that have been rejected or about which I never received a response and should have by now.
I did get to write a few days of the month. I have most of the prompts written down so I can continue to work on them. I have a couple good short stories going from the prompts too.
Great start! Glad to have you here!
This is my first month joining Storyaday so this is my first time posting my monthly goal. My October Writing goal is to have plotted out my Nanowrimo Novel. I want to have my characters figured out and a scene list created as well as plot sequence. I’m very weak in the area of plotting out stories and it really hinders my novel writing. So I want to work towards doing better at plotting and working on my novel consistently.
I’ll tell you what I’ve been telling everyone for the past year: the best book I’ve found on this (for my tastes) is “Save the Cat Writes A Novel” by Jessica Brody.
Good luck!
I dropped out of more exchanges and did none of the Story A Day prompts, but I did write, so I count that as a win.
This month, I’m doing Drawlloween, which I do by writing to the prompts, not drawing them. It’s a daily challenge, but I’ve been doing it for 2 years now, and I love it. I’m also finishing my 5k story (it’s already over 5k, so all I have to do is finish it) and my Big Bang story (still about 4k words to go).
Work is killing me though!! But I’ll mange through it somehow.
Glad to hear you’re still writing.
I wonder if we could all band together and advance the notion of Universal Basic Income…?
I’m so ready for that.
OCTOBER GOALS
I aim to organise the stories I have begun so far. They are growing in number do I need a system!
Likewise, organise my character profiles so that I can build on them and continue to develop them into a useful resource.
The BIGGY for me:-
Get three stories ready to move with, probably enter competitions. Advice gratefully received.
I have not yet achieved the goal of organising my work because I have concentrated on entering The National Poetry Competition (UK). Eventually I produced a poem I felt I could enter and it was sent off! Yippee! One goal achieved.
Well done!
